AdBlue

The storage of AdBlue is as important as storing Diesel and Unleaded due to its corrosive nature, this additive is a solution of water and urea.

Its purpose is to help reduce the harmful emissions we now have come to associate with Diesel cars, this however if not stored correctly can lead to the damage of vehicles, fuelling equipment and local wild life.

There are a variety of different methods of AdBlue storage and ways of dispensing the additive as listed below.

AdBlue IBC

IBC

AdBlue storage is most common in IBC tank which typically hold 1,000 litres of AdBlue, these tanks are fitted with a bottom outlet to allow gravity fed fuelling. This method of AdBlue storage however has no way of monitoring usage without one of the following:

1. Flow Meter

2. Pulser fitted to the nozzle

3. AdBlue Dispensing Kit which feeds through a top suction line

Either of these three options will allow a FUELlink ST or XT to monitor the useage of AdBlue, however accuracy readings from this equipment is lower than best industry practice.

Offering 5 +/- % accuracy means that for every 30 litres of AdBlue dispensed there is a chance to over or under dispense by 1.5 litres in every fill.

AdBlue Tanks

AdBlue Tanks

AdBlue can be stored in bulk tanks for depots that use a large quantity such as local authorities, bus operators and haulers, these tanks come in two varieties:

1. Plastic AdBlue Tanks

These tanks are constructed from Medium Density Polyurethane (MDPE) and are bunded for additional protection, these tanks can be supplied on their own or with integral dispensing equipment.

Typically these tanks range from 1,4000 litre to 10,000 litre tanks.

This equipment is similar to the equipment used with IBC's this means that accuracy readings again are lower than you would get with a full sized AdBlue pump.

2. Metal AdBlue Tanks

Made from stainless steel to protect against corrosiveness, for larger quantities of AdBlue a metal AdBlue tank will ensure bulk storage of AdBlue with the peace of mind there will be no breaches in the tank.

These tanks will connect to full sized dispenser pump for fuel delivery as seen below.

AdBlue Pumps

Modelled similar to a fuel pump, these AdBlue pumps allow a faster fill rate of AdBlue while maintaining the security against corrosion. These pumps are made from stainless steel with stainless steel fittings to prevent the breakdown of metal which comes into contact with AdBlue.

Fitted with an industry standard metering device in the head unit to give better accuracy readings at 0.25 +/- % accuracy, this allows better stock calculation when interfacing with the FUELlink ST or XT.
